Emerson encapsulates the simplicity of coastal living and the rituals of a barefoot, beachside lifestyle.
With a focus on liveability, Emerson is shaped by the everyday rituals of coastal life. Situated behind a beachside park, Emerson is just steps from Kirra Beach with a fringe of Norfolk pines offering a textured foreground to expansive ocean views. The vibrant, sculpted podium expresses a playful take on subtropical outdoor living, while the tower above, conceived as a collection of coastal houses in the sky, is grounded in simplicity, shaped by the plan and attuned to the Gold Coast lifestyle.
Designing for barefoot rituals
The sculpted podium with curved, landscaped balconies and planters brings a gentle vibrancy and playfulness to the streetscape and echoes the scale of nearby walk-ups and pine tree canopies. Natural stone paving leads you through the arrival sequence, past picnic benches, shaded pavilions and a communal pool. Adding texture underfoot, the paving reinforces the building’s barefoot, beachside character. This undercroft setting becomes a social threshold: a place to rinse off salt and sand, store boards or work remotely, while offering a grounded, lifestyle-focused alternative to rooftop amenity. The lobby itself is intentionally casual, responsive to the rhythms of beach life.
Shaped by views, tuned for liveability
Each dwelling is crafted for liveability, comfort and views. Living areas sit at the front, opening to deep terraces with full-height glazing and Juliet balconies. At the end of the kitchen, a bay window provides a breakfast nook, and pebbled terraces and planter boxes offer a landscaped foreground to the coastal view. Simple shifts in glazing and blade walls filter and frame short and long views of the coast, headland and Surfers Paradise. These elements create a layered threshold between the interior and horizon, and give residents control over breeze, privacy and outlook.
Crafting the coastal house in the sky
Emerging from the plan, each apartment is defined as a horizontal pavilion – a coastal house in the sky shaped by how people want to live. Slab edges extend beyond the walls and balustrades, creating platforms that stretch toward the ocean and provide shade and protection below. Walls, doors and glazing are pulled back from the edge, allowing the facade to fold and undulate in response to light and views. Further embracing authenticity and simplicity, the structure is crafted without transfer, expressed through the façade and reinforced by the rhythmic repetition of the tower plate.
