640 Bourke redefines contemporary urban living and creates a place that is quintessentially Melbourne.
Bold in vision and grounded in purpose, 640 Bourke is a 68-storey tower that reimagines urban living in Melbourne, comprising more than 600 residences and paying homage to the city’s architectural heritage. From the elegant apartments and considered amenities to the activated laneway, 640 Bourke enriches the resident and visitor experience and offers a place that is quintessentially Melbourne.
Curating a Sanctuary in the City
Behind the restored façade of the heritage-listed Eliza Tinsley building, the lobby and amenities are crafted with a rich tapestry of opulent materiality and diverse spatial qualities designed to foster a distinct sense of place, connection and community. Providing residents with a sanctuary in the city, the tranquil pool is inspired by traditional hammams and grand Roman bathhouses, while the salon is a spacious reading room that serves as a quiet haven. Private dining rooms nod to Melbourne speakeasies, and the Whiskey Room is a sophisticated space for intimate gatherings.
Crafting a Sense of Permanence and Place
Crafting a Sense of Permanence and Place
Recognising the evolution in city living, the apartments are designed predominantly for owner-occupiers, with generous, spacious floor plans that maximise amenity and offer expansive views. Timeless and elegant materiality and detailing imbues the warm, textural interiors with a strong sense of permanence and place that speaks to a contemporary aesthetic while capturing Melbourne’s historical essence.
Elevating the Skyline and Laneway
The checkerboard-pattern tiles that feature in the lobby, amenities and apartments are translated to the east and west elevations of the 68-storey glass tower, with a grid motif elongating the perspective. The elegant building appears as if it’s comprised of two towers, reducing its scale on the skyline and disrupting the wind to create a more comfortable environment at ground level. Here, we expanded and rejuvenated Langs Lane, transforming it into an active, inviting laneway that is quintessentially Melbourne.
