We want to engage with the rich tapestry of built form which has shaped Brunswick into the suburb it is today.
Brunswick is in the midst of regeneration from a largely industrial past to a diverse range of new uses. Within this context, it is necessary to reference and engage with the rich tapestry of built form which has shaped Brunswick into the suburb it is today.
Sculptural in design and structural in form, Canvas’ façade pays homage to Brunswick’s industrial past. Formed by concrete construction and urban design principles, the structural grid spans the building, framing each apartment. Reinterpreting the industrial regeneration of Brunswick, Canvas is cut to fit into the mosaic of Barkly Street.

Blending both rough and smooth materiality, Canvas’ façade and robust form bring forth the geometric grid, illuminating the individual ‘canvas’ created within each window.
Canvas’ open window architecture allows for a flood of light to cascade into both the residential and communal spaces. City and park views stretch to the south, whilst the built form captures northern sunshine.
Tethered to Barkly Street, Canvas’ ground level will thrive off the bustle of Brunswick. Take a step back from the excitement on Sydney Road or Barkly Square, and step into the welcoming lobby. The private and secure residential access on Barkly Street provides absolute convenience.
