An innovative architectural response was required to provide a unique medium-density housing proposal for Melbourne. The architecture needs to be informed by the human scale, to be specific to its location and the needs of its inhabitants to create a finely tuned response to context.
The massing takes cues from the local vernacular to draw together clusters of units to articulate terraces within the built form. The scallops and projected balconies allow each unit to be identified from the ground plane. Further articulation is introduced at the top and base of the buildings to address bulk and scale while maintaining a presence on the key corners of the site

One of the gateway elements in the precinct, the buildings frame the main street along with the shopping centre, and holding a strong presence on the corner of Middleborough Road and Foundation Boulevard, one of the primary vehicle entries into the precinct. The ground plane is designed in response to the public domain and offers generous public and private landscaped spaces to the street frontage. Ground floor units are typically raised above the street to offer passive surveillance and activation to Foundation Boulevard.

Conceived with a “generous eye for life” residents will live in a home that celebrates the individual and a building that engenders a sense of belonging and community.
By allowing individuals choice in the way in which these spaces can be occupied the shared spaces have been thoughtfully designed to foster engagement with neighbours and friends.
Considerations of comfort and luxury are embedded in the project, offering homes designed to enhance the lives of their occupants.
