People & culture | NAIDOC Week at Rothelowman

Acknowledging Australia’s First Nations people is intrinsically linked to the work we do at Rothelowman as architects and designers. During this NAIDOC Week, we took the opportunity to deepen our understanding of ‘Designing with Country’ by welcoming Matthew Everitt and Fatima Everitt broadcasted nationally across each studio to unpack this year’s theme – Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.

All Rothelowman studios tuned in to listen to Matthew and discuss his heritage as a proud Taungurung man of the Kulin Nation in Victoria, as well as his experience running the Dreamtime Art Creative Consultancy (DACC) alongside his wife, Fatima who discussed the history and connection of first nations people’s art.

Matthew’s and Fatima’s presentation provided a profound glimpse into integrating Indigenous heritage into our design ethos. They sparked meaningful discussions on the essence of ‘Designing with Country’ and challenged us to reconsider our approach to space creation and design.

Thank you, Matthew and Fatima for sharing your knowledge with Rothelowman this NAIDOC week. We look forward to continuing this important dialogue and applying these insights to enrich our future projects and how we operate as a national collective.
