Sculptural in its form, the architecture responds to its natural landscape. Cascading terraces soften a grand double frontage, creating a vertical garden that seems to flow into the park and the lake below.
Victoriana’s natural and free form promotes visual interest and complements surrounding urban environment, establishing a strong benchmark for future developments in the neighbourhood.
Comprising 18 storeys, the building’s height steps down between the Melbourne Central Activities district and the St Kilda Junction, preserving significant views to and from the Shrine of Remembrance, minimising visual bulk from surrounding residential and public amenity, and complementing Queens Road’s existing formal landscaping setbacks and mature boulevard planting.
By visually connecting and extending the landscape through to the core of the proposed development with balcony bays and planting, the floor plates are able to expand and contract as required creating a contoured boundary form. The use of dark glass encourages an interplay of light and shade, causing glistening of natural sunlight, whilst subtly revealing more layers of surface articulation in the shadows.
