How do we incorporate a design with suburban ideals in a medium-density development?
Forming part of Stockland’s Newport development on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Newport Terrace Homes are bound by the expansive Marina waterfront, large open spaces and native wetlands Newport presents a unique opportunity to provide high-quality housing for the growing Moreton Bay Region. Rothelowman’s design understands the current demand in the region and the need for high-quality medium-density housing.
Newport is a quickly growing region which should allow for the younger generations as well as the old. The Precinct should cater to young families and young couples which will help to create a truly diverse community

Newport Terrace Homes explore the idea of the Subtropical Outdoor Room. Each home incorporates a shaded private open space with a high-level amenity that faces gardens, parkland or lakeside frontages.
Open plan living areas flow to shaded outdoor terraces that celebrate the local coastal environment. Outdoor spaces fully engage with the landscape to establish a sense of place throughout the community.
A sophisticated palette of robust materials is proposed that is suitable for both climate and local context. Roof forms are purposefully articulated to create a sense of individuality amongst the terrace homes enclaves. Cross-ventilation and well shaded, deep protected living spaces allow occupants to take advantage of the subtropical context of the site with a deliberate emphasis on ground floor living and connection to the outdoors designed for the place.

The proposal captures the essence of living in the Bay area and the surrounding natural environment. Proposed typologies aim to set a precedent for high-quality medium density housing within an established vibrant growing community.
