New Rothelowman Principal

New Rothelowman Principal

Rothelowman

Rothelowman is pleased to welcome Duncan Betts as the national practice’s newest Principal.

The recent appointment sees Betts join fellow Brisbane Principal, Jeff Brown, with whom he has been instrumental in driving the growth of Rothelowman’s Queensland practice.

In his eight years at Rothelowman, Betts has seen how leading a team with a collaborative national focus achieves high-quality design outcomes. Betts is quick to cite that one of Rothelowman’s key points of difference is their daily collaboration, and ability to share resources and knowledge across their three studios in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

“Rothelowman operates as one design studio, one business and are one cohesive team.” This depth of collaboration, national design review and knowledge sharing continues to see evermore powerful design thinking leading to outstanding outcomes for our clients. It is also very exciting to be a part of a practice that is constantly seeking to evolve and advance its conceptual design approach,” says Betts.

As a core philosophy, Betts believes industry success hinges on both an individual’s ability to “continually evolve as a person, designer and as a business leader,” and “to complement and contribute to the wider team.”

Beyond his design achievements, Betts is a former elite cricket player and draws upon this experience in his leadership role. Betts notes in parallel that both elite level sport and quality design require the efforts of a highly skilled team – a factor which Betts sees as “a very humbling everyday reality.”

Betts is passionate about creating genuine connections with clients and highly desirable living environments. He believes “the making of experience is at the core of design,” and states Rothelowman’s role is to “facilitate the creation of spaces that move the human spirit.”

His immediate agenda as Principal will centre on outwardly communicating the Rothelowman brand, design process and culture in the wider property and construction industry. Beyond this, Betts will look to extend the brand in the Brisbane and South-East Queensland multi-residential and mixed-use market that is now rapidly maturing, offering considerable opportunity for new innovation.

Betts brings more than 14 years’ industry experience to Rothelowman with eight of these as part of the Rothelowman team.

Betts steps into the role providing direction and leadership in collaboration with the wider team of nine Principals nationwide.
