A big thank you to everyone who joined our Build to Rent (BtR) presentation and panel discussion last Wednesday with JLL.

BtR is a sector firmly in the spotlight as Australia fights to ease the housing crisis. MC’d by Managing Principal Nigel Hobart, Rothelowman Principals @Stuart Marsland and Chris Hayton, along with David Hill, Senior Director of Alternative Investments at JLL, discussed the sector, it’s position as a long-term hold asset and why the design response must differentiate from Build to Sell.

There are four key considerations that must drive the design response, including the operational such as minimising intervention and optimising user experience; the asset management by creating robust, timeless design with the capacity to change and support resident engagement; the target audience and market; and the clients brand within the surrounding urban context.

All elements must manifest in the design solution.
Success lies in taking the time to understand what drives all stakeholder input, provoking alternate thinking and seeking answers that are mutually beneficial.
